SODIMAR

Gaël Levesque, Manager and Sales Representative

How would you describe your activity?
We are a fully independent road sign equipment services provider. Our competitors are all major corporations. I would say that our distinguishing feature is the flexibility of an SME combined with the quality of products that are made in Germany. Such is the quality of our products that, since 1993, we have been the exclusive partner of German brand name Nissen, Europe's number one player for road safety. We mainly produce temporary flashing devices, road lamp trailers and products in recycled rubber. We are a fully independent road sign equipment services provider. Who are your customers?
Our sector is highly specific. In France, most road safety devices are purchased by local authorities, municipalities, the Interdepartmental Road Directorate or the authority that oversees national roads and motorways. In addition, there are a few industrial niche markets, but their activity is much smaller-scale. This activity works on the basis of competitive bidding and government contracts. Unfortunately, given the small scale of our company, we are not very competitive. This is made worse by the fact that our products, due to their high quality, are penalised given their price. Despite all that, our main competitor was won over by the quality of our products, and has since become our biggest customer! We have a very limited staff, so one niche market is enough to keep us afloat.

What are these niche markets?
Given the gradual withdrawal of the State (in France, some local authorities don't even have a technical branch any more), we are often entrusted with putting up road signs. Local authorities call upon our services, and that's when we intervene. Public works civil engineering resellers also turn to us; they subcontract the signage part of their projects to us.

How do you go about promoting your activity?
Given the specific nature of our field, the only way to promote our activity is on the ground. Two or three times a week, I go and see potential customers to show them our range of products. This is the only way of operating that I can imagine. Of course, after that, there is Europages...

How does Europages help you to develop your activity?
We use Europages to obtain more widespread visibility which in turn should bring in business. Europages complements our activity; we do not rely on their services to survive. Thanks to Europages, we have undoubtedly increased our notoriety.

How many contacts have you established thanks to Europages?
I'm unable to say. The prospects who contact us and ask for quotes rarely say how they found us. Nevertheless, we are completely satisfied with this complementary support.
